OUR VOICES MATTER- Fully Fund The MCPS Budget
On Tuesday April 8th, MCAAP President Dr. Christine Handy, her executive team, and valued members; stood strong in the fight for the future of our educational community, alongside other local unions MCEA, SEIU Local 500, Board of Education President, educational colleauges, and MCPS Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor, did not back down and showed a united front advocating the importance of fully funding our educational budget.
With almost 200 Montgomery County employees, parents, students and residents in attendance County Council had no choice but to hear our voices and know we will not backdown in the fight to fully fund our schools. Fully fund our schools!” declared Dr. HandyMCAAP President. “The MCPS budget before you is not just numbers on a page. It represents the future of our students, the stability of our schools, and the well-being of the dedicated professionals who serve this community every single day. Our superintendent has already made difficult cuts. Positions have been eliminated. Programs have been adjusted. And yet, despite these sacrifices, we are still being asked to do more with less. Even in tough economic times, our students deserve the best education possible. And that starts with fully funding the proposed budget. We cannot afford to fall behind. We cannot afford more cuts. And we cannot afford to lose talented professionals to other districts simply because they offer higher pay.”
This is just the beginning but we will rise and make sure we continue to stand united to protect our educational future.
