The Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP) proudly announces that Ms. Rhoshanda Pyles, principal of Rockville High School, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision. This prestigious award honors an outstanding Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) administrator who exemplifies exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to educational excellence.

Under her leadership, Rockville High School has strengthened a positive and inclusive culture where every voice is valued. Students shared that, “she changes lives,” “she is a presence in students’ lives,” and “she immerses herself in the student experience, she is front and center.” Staff describe her as “a 360 principal,” and a “collaborative team builder,” while parents note she is “the glue that holds our school community together,” and that she “excels in community and stakeholder involvement.”

Her focus on high-quality instructional practices has contributed to increased graduation rates and expanded student access to the International Baccalaureate program. She has also successfully advocated for the resources necessary to ensure all learners are supported and challenged. Additionally, Ms. Pyles extends her leadership beyond the school. She serves on multiple MCPS workgroups, co-leads the High School Principals’ Professional Learning community, and contributed to districtwide initiatives including the Student Code of Conduct and Leadership Development Workgroups, further demonstrating her commitment to systemwide improvement.
