General Member Benefit Eligibility
AFSA member benefits supplement local collective bargaining benefits such as pensions, health care, dental coverage, and welfare funds. Members must remain in good standing, generally requiring two uninterrupted years of membership or the length of local affiliation, whichever is less.
AFSA Legal Action Trust Coverage
Enrollment is automatic for eligible members and includes professional liability, accidental death, and total disability benefits.
Total Disability Benefits
Maximum lifetime benefit of $15,000 begins in the fifth month after disability onset and continues until age 65, benefit maximum, or recovery.
Criminal Defense Coverage
Up to $25,000 reimbursement for defense costs involving school-related criminal charges, subject to terms and prior AFSA notification.
Accidental Death Benefit
Paid when AFSA has a signed beneficiary form on file and claimants submit a qualifying death certificate.
Associate & Retired Members
Associate and retired members receive limited benefit eligibility. Certain legal and age-restricted plans may not apply.
